Now that you know who your potential customers are, you are ready to tell them what you have for sale. You have to communicate with them. Sound pretty basic? Well let's take it a bit further. When you start talking to your customers, they have to be willing and able to listen to what you have to say. You have to say what they want to hear! You will find out what they want by asking them and listening to what they say. God gave you two ears and one mouth, use them in that proportion. If you listen to your customers they will tell you what they want you to say to them! Then say it to them! Three things have to be right for this to work:

1. The person you are talking to has to need and want what you are offering.

This is all about ensuring that you are selling to someone that wants your sort of act. Don't waste your time trying to get work from people that never book your type of show. What is it about your product they are buying? You need to build a list of all the places you can get work out of, who are the people you talk to at each place, and what is it that each of them want?

2. The timing has to be right and they are ready to buy right now.

Find out how your customers work. Find out when they organise the acts that they will be using. How far in advance do they book them? What time of day do they want to talk to you about it? Will they read letters you send to them? When is the best time to send them letters?

3. They have to have the money to be able to pay for what you are selling.

What are you worth to them? How much extra business will they do because you are there? Remember, no words like 'heaps'! You can watch and count most of this stuff! How often do they employ bands?

Now that you know this stuff, focus your selling efforts on the people that want what you are selling, are ready to make a decision to buy you, and have the money to pay you.
