Your job is to find out what they want (you are allowed to ask them!) and make sure they get it. Let's think about that!
Molly Malone's is a real neat pub in Wellington. Molly's employ good 'Irish bands' on a regular basis. The punters know this and go there to hear the music they like. When the punters get there,
they get into the music, stay longer than they planned, and drink more than they meant to. The publican that hired the band employed them because they believe they will get more punters, more
often, for longer periods of time, drinking more, if they have regular good 'Celtic Bands'.Have we got the idea of what 'this group of customers' want? If you have a really good 'classical
string quartet' don't waste your time trying to get work at Molly's. Even if you could convince the publican to employ you for the night, the punters would hate you for not delivering what they
went to Molly's to hear! Even if you are really good and they like 'classical string quartet's'. They didn't turn up expecting to get that tonight! Now I'm not suggesting you have to play Irish
music or that you have to work at Molly's to be professional! What you do need to do is realise you have a style of music. When people have heard you play and are then asked to describe you, they
will! You're potential customers are people that like your sort of band! Find them and sell yourselves to them. Don't get the 'Blues' trying to talk a 'Punk Rock Audience' into liking your
'Country Covers Band'.
